To ask the Minister for Housing, Planning, and Local Government the terms of the State-backed local authority loan mortgage protection scheme; if a verdict of death by suicide by one member of a couple who have taken out such a home loan invalidates the mortgage protection; and if he will make a statement on the matter. The local authority Mortgage Protection Insurance (MPI) scheme has applied to all house purchase loans approved by local authorities after 1 July 1986, including the Local Authority Home Loan introduced on 4 January 2022.

The current contract for MPI came into effect from 1 January 2023. This contract offers life cover only. A link to the Master Policy Document is provided below. Section 3.2 sets out the exclusions in this policy.
