Question 436: To ask the Minister for Agriculture, Fisheries and Food if the early farm retirement scheme and the installation aid grant are EU funded; if so the savings to the Exchequer from the abolition of both of these schemes; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [38240/08]

The current Early Retirement Scheme is 50% co-funded by the EU. A provision of €47 million has been made available for the scheme in the 2009 Estimates and it is not possible to quantify the savings which will arise due to suspension of applications.

In the case of installation aid, grant payments under the Young Farmers' Installation Scheme are co-funded by the EU, whilst grants under the preceding Scheme, the Installation Aid Scheme, are funded entirely by the National Exchequer. A sum of €9.75 million has been made available for both these schemes in the 2009 Estimates and it is not possible to quantify the savings which will arise due to suspension of the Young Farmers' Installation Scheme for new applications at this stage.
