Significant progress has been made on drafting the new Animal Health and Welfare Bill, which is intended to give effect to a number of commitments, in the area of animal health and welfare, contained in the Programme for Government. The large number of submissions and comments received following the public consultation process on the draft Bill continue to be examined. My officials will meet directly with a number of those parties who have made submissions, giving them the opportunity to expand on their respective submissions/comments and I am now finalising the format of such further consultation. Following completion of this process, arrangements will proceed with drafting the legislation having regard to all comments received.
