Question 277: To ask the Minister for the Environment, Heritage and Local Government the amount of funding to Kildare County Council for the provision of a new sewerage system for Monasterevin; if the scheme currently under construction will meet the long-term need of the town; if a second phase sewerage development is envisaged; and if he will make a statement on the matter. The Monasterevin sewerage scheme, which was funded under my Department's water services investment programme, was completed at the end of 2005 at a cost of €7.2 million. The first phase of the scheme provided for the replacement of the existing waste water treatment plant. The sewerage network in the town and environs was extended and upgraded under the second phase. The capacity of the completed scheme is adequate to cater for the medium term requirements of the catchment area and my Department has no current proposals from Kildare County Council to further extend or develop the scheme.
