In January 2004, Kildare County Council, along with all library authorities, was asked to review its capital programme for library development and to submit a prioritised list of library proposals which it wished to have considered by my Department in its review of the public library capital programme. The council listed five projects in the following order of priority: mobile library; school library delivery van; Kildare town; Newbridge; and Maynooth. Kildare County Council subsequently withdrew Kildare town from its priority list.

In October 2005, the council's top two priority projects were approved for funding. The remaining projects on the council's priority list will be kept under review and considered in the light of available capital, other commitments and proposals on hand.
