I am informed by the director general of the Irish Prison Service that there are 12 female prisoners, all of whom are detained in Mountjoy female prison, whose nationality is from outside the European Union. The governor of that institution has interviewed each of the prisoners concerned and has reported that none has children in the care of the authorities.

I am informed by the Commissioner of the Garda Síochána that there is currently one mother being held in detention for non-compliance with a deportation order. I understand from the commissioner that her young child is being cared for by a friend of hers.
