In its private session the committee has approved its annual report for 2017, which will be published early next week and laid before the Houses of the Oireachtas. There will not be a press launch of the report but it will be available and laid before the Houses. The purpose of this report is to outline the activities of the committee during the year. This includes 49 meetings of the Committee of Public Accounts in 2017. It sat for 228 hours. The main Departments and issues the committee focused on during 2017 were the education, financial, health and justice sectors. We also had 12 meetings in private session. During the course of the year the Committee of Public Accounts received 728 items of correspondence and the committee issued 501 items of correspondence. The number of speaking witnesses at the committee in 2017 was 273. On 15 March 2017 the committee published a report on the NAMA sale of Project Eagle. The committee published a report on 11 July on the examination of the third level education sector. A report was published on 18 July 2017 on matters around the financial procedures at the Garda College, Templemore. This is a summary of the work carried out by the committee in 2017. The full report will be published and laid before the Houses early next week.
