Higher education institutions are autonomous entities vested with statutory authority over their own governance and operational affairs, including the discretion to set their own postgraduate tuition fees.

I understand that the higher education tuition fee payable by a postgraduate student can vary depending on a variety of factors including the type of course and the fee rates of a particular institution.

While postgraduate fees remain a statutory function the institutions to determine, postgraduate students may be able to avail of supports such as those available to eligible students under the Student Grant Scheme administered by SUSI and Springboard+.

With regard to SUSI supports, I was pleased to announce a permanent increase of €500 in the SUSI Postgraduate Fee Contribution Grant as part of Budget 2026. This measure will increase the postgraduate fee grant support from €4,000 to €4,500.

Postgraduate students can find details of the various supports available at www.SUSI.ie and springboardcourses.ie/.
