1140. To ask the Minister for Housing, Planning, and Local Government if Cork City Council has submitted, or intends to submit, an application under the Urban Regeneration and Development Fund or any other local government funding mechanism for the refurbishment or redevelopment of Mayfield Sports Complex; and if he will make a statement on the matter. The relevant sponsoring agency is responsible for the composition of applications for funding under the Urban Regeneration and Development Fund (URDF), and decides, in the first instance, on which suitable projects it wishes to have considered for URDF funding. In that context, Cork City Council did not submit an application under previous funding calls of the Urban Regeneration and Development Fund for the refurbishment or redevelopment of Mayfield Sports Complex.
The agreed Programme for Government included a commitment to establish a new Towns and Cities Infrastructure Investment Fund to:
- invest in infrastructure, acquire land, assemble sites, de-risk sites;
- support the development of new transport orientated development towns as necessary; and
- continue and expand URDF (Urban Regeneration and Development Fund) investments in project to regenerate the public realm.
While my Department will work closely with local authorities in respect of project development under these funding streams, responsibility for the composition of any applications for funding and their advancement through the various stages of planning, development and completion will remain a matter for the relevant local authority.
