78. To ask the Tánaiste and Minister for Justice and Equality regarding the Garda drone evaluation project that concluded in 2023, if he has any plans to address the ‘legislative clarity’ required by An Garda Síochána to utilise drones for operations. [54185/25]

The use of recording devices by An Garda Síochána, including those that are mounted on unmanned aerial vehicles (drones) is provided for under Part 2 of the Garda Síochána (Recording Devices) Act 2024. The legislative framework for use of drones is to be further supported by a Code of Practice which is to be prepared by An Garda Síochána.

The drone evaluation project is an operational matter for the Commissioner to consider. No identified need for additional legislation has been communicated to my Department, however, officials in my Department will consider any such request if received from An Garda Síochána.
