The Office of Public Works (OPW) in partnership with Cork City Council are engaging proactively to progress the Glashaboy Flood Relief Scheme for Glanmire.
The Glashaboy Flood Relief Scheme was confirmed in January 2021 by the Minister for Public Expenditure, Infrastructure, Public Service Reform and Digitalisation under the Arterial Drainage Acts 1945 and 1995 as amended.
The scheme, when complete, will provide flood protection to some 103 properties; 78 residential properties and 25 commercial premises, and will address the flood risk in a number of locations in the Glanmire area. The proposed scheme is designed to provide protection against a 1 in 100-Year fluvial flood.
Works are ongoing across multiple locations in Glanmire and Sallybrook as part of the Glashaboy Flood Relief Scheme. The construction stage of the scheme commenced in July 2023. The overall construction works are 85% complete and the expected substantial completion date for the scheme construction is by Q2 2026.
Funding for the scheme is part of the Government’s commitment of €1.3 billion for the delivery of flood relief measures over the lifetime of the National Development Plan.
The Total Project Budget for this scheme is estimated at some €38.8 million, with a total expenditure to date of €26.8 million. Updates on the progression of the scheme are available on the scheme's website that is available through the OPW's floodinfo website: www.floodinfo.ie/frs/en/glashaboy/home/.
