Details on the number of households qualified for social housing support in each local authority administrative area is provided in the annual statutory Summary of Social Housing Assessments (SSHA).
The most recently published summary for all counties, conducted in November 2024, is available on my Department's website, along with all summaries since 2011 at gov.ie/en/collection/62486-summary-of-social-housing-assessments/
Details of households qualified for social housing support by local authority, including Kerry are included in tables 1.1 in the reports.
The SSHA 2025 process is currently underway and I expect to publish the summary report before the end of Q1 2026.

The day-to-day operation of the social housing system is primarily a matter for local authorities. Accordingly, details regarding the allocation of social housing by local authorities to qualified households are not held by my Department. This information could be sought directly from Kerry County Council.

I propose to take Questions Nos. 1269 and 1270 together.
My Department publishes comprehensive programme-level statistics on a quarterly basis on social and affordable housing delivery activity by local authorities and Approved Housing Bodies (AHBs) in each local authority. This data is available to the end of Q1 2025, and is published on the statistics page of my Department’s website, at the following link: gov.ie/en/collection/6060e-overall-social-housing-provision/ .
My Department also publishes the Social Housing Construction Status Report (CSR), which provides details of social housing developments and their location that have been completed, are under construction or are progressing through the various stages of the design and tender processes. The most recent publication was for Quarter 1 2025. All CSRs are available at the following link: gov.ie/en/collection/cb885-social-housing-construction-projects-status-reports/ .
A version of the CSR file can also be downloaded for analysis by local authority, location etc. at this link: opendata.housing.gov.ie/dataset/social-housing-construction-status-report-q1-2025.
In relation to affordable housing, to end Q1 2025 over 14,500 affordable housing solutions have been delivered via Approved Housing Bodies, Local Authorities, the Land Development Agency, through the First Home Scheme, the Cost Rental Tenant-in-Situ Scheme and the Vacant Property Refurbishment Grant, including over 60 affordable housing options delivered in Kerry.
All local authorities, including Kerry County Council, have developed and published their Housing Delivery Action Plans setting out their plans to deliver social and affordable housing during the period from 2022-2026, following a comprehensive Housing Needs and Demand Assessment. A copy of Kerry County Council’s Housing Delivery Action Plan is available on its website at the following link: kerrycoco.ie/housing-delivery-programme/
The Affordable Housing Fund (AHF) is available to all local authorities to assist towards the cost of developing affordable housing at locations where significant affordability needs have been identified. My Department met with the Housing Delivery team in Kerry County Council in December 2024 to support their work towards the identification and development of appropriate proposals which may lead to the delivery of affordable housing with the support of the AHF in response to localised needs identified by the local authority at key urban locations such as Killarney and Tralee.
In support of City and Towns regeneration policies, such as Towns Centre First, the Ready to Build serviced sites scheme is available which supports local authorities to provide sites at a discount to people who want to build their own home. Further information with regard to the scheme is available on my Department's website at the following link: gov.ie/en/publication/33209-ready-to-build-scheme-serviced-sites-for-new-homes/ or by contacting Vacant Homes officer directly from Kerry County Council.
My Department, the Housing Agency and Housing Delivery Co-ordination Office of the Local Government Management Association continue to be available to assist Kerry County Council in relation to ongoing development of its response to meeting affordable housing needs in Kerry.
