1144. To ask the Minister for Housing, Planning, and Local Government further to Parliamentary Question No. 1482 of 29 July 2025, if he will clarify the reason for approval of Uisce Éireann’s Water Services Strategic Plan 2050 (WSSP 2050) on 1 August 2025 in view of the fact that his Department had no role in approving the body’s Strategic Funding Plan 2025-2029. The Water Services Strategic Plan 2050 (WSSP 2050) is a long-term strategic plan that Uisce Éireann is required to prepare and submit to me as Minister under Section 33(1) of the Water Services (No.2) Act 2013 (the Act). I approved this plan on 1st August 2025.

Section 33(6) of the Act provides for the incumbent Minister to approve the Water Services Strategic Plan. In line with section 34A of the Water Services (No.2) Act 2013 (as inserted by section 19 of the Water Services Act 2017), the Uisce Éireann Strategic Funding Plan was approved by the previous Minister on 5th November 2024.
