1097. To ask the Minister for Communications, Climate Action and Environment the position regarding any review being carried out by his Department into the level of annual grant funding provided for intercounty players; if his attention has been drawn to the pre-budget submission of the Gaelic Players Association; if this will be considered; and if he will make a statement on the matter. Decisions about financial support to players of a sport are ultimately matters for the National Governing Bodies of those sports, in this case the GAA, LGFA and Camogie Association.
Sport Ireland distributed €5.6 million in 2024 in respect of the Government Support for Inter County Gaelic Games in addition to the annual investment in Games Development. This funding is payable to the GAA which, in collaboration with the LGFA, Camogie Association and the GPA, is responsible for its distribution to teams and players along with its reporting and oversight.
I wish to advise the Deputy that the group to which he refers has sent copies of its pre-Budget Submission for 2026 to me and to my officials. In line with other pre-budget submissions, it will be given due consideration in the coming weeks.
