Sport Ireland, which is funded by this Department, is the statutory body with responsibility for the development of sport. It works to assist National Governing Bodies of Sport (NGBs) to develop sustainable and effective structures with the aim of increasing the number of participants and volunteers in sport and ensuring long term sustainability of NGBs.

Sport Ireland invests in NGBs in line with its strategic priorities and many receive funding to support their core operations. The below table provides a breakdown of funding provided to Snooker and Billiards Ireland, which is the organisation referred to in the question, from 2022 to present:

I propose to take Questions Nos. 1086 and 1087 together.

Sport Ireland, which is funded by this Department, is the statutory body with responsibility for the development of sport, including the allocation of funding across its various programmes.

Sport Ireland does not provide direct funding for clubs or individuals but channels the funding through the relevant National Governing Body of sport (NGB). In 2025, Snooker and Billiards Ireland will receive €138,000 in funding from Sport Ireland. Additional funding provided by Sport Ireland, as part of its Special Projects stream, enabled members of Snooker and Billiards to participate in the World Snooker Disability Championships held in Thailand in Q1 2025.
