The club referred to by the Deputy was successful in a number of applications under the Community Sport Facilities Fund, formerly the Sports Capital and Equipment Programme. The club was allocated €45,000 in 2017 and €26,333 in 2020. Both allocations are substantially drawn down and the amounts remaining are €2,250 and €1,317 for the 2017 and 2020 allocations respectively.

In order for the club to draw down the remaining funding, it should upload the final quotes, proof of payment, photo of beneficiary sign and certificates of completion for each grant, stating the project is completed to a satisfactory standard. The club can contact the Sports Capital Unit in my Department which can assist the club with any queries it has on drawing down the remaining funds.

Sport Ireland, which is funded by my Department, is the statutory body with responsibility for the development of sport, increasing participation at all levels and raising standards. It also has responsibility for the allocation of funding across its various programmes, including, in this case, to Basketball Ireland, the National Governing Body for basketball in Ireland.

Over the last 5 years, Sport Ireland has allocated the following to Basketball Ireland:

- 2021 2022 2023 2024 2025
Sport Ireland Core Funding €740,000 €800,000 €840,000 €900,000 €930,000
Performance Dev. Programme €150,000 €200,000
Women in Sport €70,000 €70,000 €75,000 €80,000 €80,000
Dormant Accounts €155,00 €230,370 €207,500 €198,000
Special Projects €68,000 - €100,000 -
Digital Catalyst - - - €12,500
Core Bonus Payment (Dec 2023) - - €60,000
On 25 September 2024, €230 million was announced in grants for sports clubs and facilities under phase 2 of the Community Sport Facilities Fund (CSFF). Over a quarter of a billion euro was allocated to community sports clubs and facilities in total in 2024, taking account of the earlier equipment-only allocation of €26 million. This represents the largest-ever investment in sports facilities in communities across Ireland. Over €2 million was allocated to 46 basketball projects as part of this.
