The Community Sport Facilities Fund (CSFF) is the primary vehicle for Government support for the development of sports and recreation facilities and the purchase of non-personal sports equipment throughout the country.  The Programme for Government commits to continuing the CSFF and to prioritising investment in disadvantaged areas.

Over a quarter of a billion euro was allocated to 3,048 community sports clubs and facilities in 2024 from the CSFF, representing the largest-ever investment in sports facilities in communities across Ireland. The club referred to by the Deputy was allocated funding of €20,000 in 2012 and €30,000 in 2020 from the Sports Capital and Equipment Programme, as the CSFF was formerly known, toward a wheelchair accessible boat.

In line with previous rounds of the programme, a review of the current funding round is being undertaken and that review will inform the timing of the next round of the CSFF. However, I would anticipate that the next round should be announced in 2026.

Sport Ireland, which is funded by my Department, is the statutory body with responsibility for the development of sport, increasing participation at all levels and raising standards, including the allocation of funding across its various programmes. Sport Ireland does not provide direct funding for clubs or individuals but channels the funding through its network of Local Sports Partnerships (LSPs), recognised National Governing Bodies for Sport (NGBs), and other relevant sporting organisations. I would advise the club in question to contact its relevant NGB and/or LSP directly to ascertain if either organisation is in a position to provide financial support for this proposal.

In 2024, Sport Ireland published its Statement of Commitment and Action to Disability Inclusion in Sport. This policy will be a key driver of disability inclusion in the coming years and sets out key actions that my Department and Sport Ireland will pursue to ensure that everyone has equal access to sport. A key action under this policy is the creation of a new Disability in Sport Lead role within Sport Ireland to drive forward the policy.

The organisation referred to by the Deputy was allocated €6,000 for equipment under the 2015 Sports Capital and Equipment Programme and €5,895 of this allocation was paid to the organisation in 2016.

The organisation was also allocated €32,165 and €43,089, under the 2018 and 2020 rounds of the programme respectively, toward the replacement the Main Sports Hall roof. The organisation have recently contacted my Department  to change the purpose of the allocations to installation of solar panels and a new heating system. The Department has agreed to the change of purpose subject to the  relevant lease being registered.

The Community Sports Facilities Fund (CSFF), formerly the Sports Capital and Equipment Programme, is the primary vehicle for Government support for the development of sports and recreation facilities and the purchase of non-personal sports equipment.

Under the 2023 round of the Community Sport Facilities Fund €8,249,149 was allocated to 87 sporting projects in Westmeath while €2,035,554 was allocated to 29 sporting projects in Longford.

I propose to take Questions Nos. 1078 and 1083 together.

Sport Ireland is the authority tasked with the development of sport in Ireland including participation, high performance, anti-doping, coaching and the development of the Sport Ireland Campus. Sport Ireland distributes funding to the bodies referred to in the question, namely the GAA, Ladies Gaelic Football Association (LGFA), Camogie Association, and GAA Handball as separate entities, while also supporting joint Gaelic Games initiatives that encompass collaborative programmes across the different codes.

Funding to each organisation is provided by Sport Ireland under various investment streams, including Youth Field Sports Grant, Core Grant Investment, Women in Sport, and targeted programme funding. The tables below provide the breakdown of allocations from 2021 to 2024. Amounts for 2025 are still being finalised and are currently going through the relevant internal and oversight processes prior to distribution.

In addition to this, the Department provides sports capital funding through a number of schemes. The following table details the Capital funding made available by the Department to the GAA, Ladies Gaelic Football Association (LGFA) and Camogie Association through the Community Sports Facilities Fund (CSFF) and the Large Scale Sport Infrastructure Fund (LSSIF).

Under the 2020 Sports Capital and Equipment Programme and the 2023 Community Sport Facilities Fund the following was allocated

Sport Type Funding in 2020 Funding in 2023
Gaelic Games €65,369,015 €107,776,787
Ladies Gaelic Football €488,680 €272,332
Camogie €607,500 €1,544,827
A number of Gaelic Games projects will have also benefitted from multi-sport project funding under the various capital schemes operated by my department.

The following figures represent the funding allocated by Sport Ireland:
