606. To ask the Minister for Public Expenditure and Reform his plans to deliver a resilient national public-safety radio network, including mission-critical TETRA or LTE interoperable with HF or mesh fallbacks; the implementation timeline; the integration with national cell broadcast and alerting systems; and if he will make a statement on the matter. I can confirm to the Deputy that there is an existing resilient mission-critical radio network using the TETRA standard already in operation and used for Public Protection and Disaster Relief (PPDR) purposes. This network is operated by Tetra Ireland and is designed to provide a reliable and robust emergency network for the State's emergency personnel with the widest possible coverage.
The Department of Culture, Communications and Sport is currently preparing to procure a national cell broadcast system and officials in my Department are providing advice on what, if any, integration with the Tetra network is required.
