I propose to take Questions Nos. 2209 and 2210 together.

I wish to inform the Deputy that all of the schemes outlined below are currently open for applications. Sporting and community organisations with appropriate land access are eligible to apply, subject to meeting scheme conditions.

Details of Capital Funding Programme or Grant Opening Date
Afforestation Scheme 6 September 2023
NeighbourWood Scheme 13 March 2025
Native Woodland Conservation Scheme 12 February 2024
Forest Road Scheme 24 April 2023
Reconstitution Ash Dieback Scheme 24 July 2023
Deer Tree Shelter, Hare and Deer Fencing Scheme 22 September 2023
Woodland Improvement Scheme 21 December 2023
Climate Resilient Reforestation Scheme (Pilot) 26 July 2024
Woodland Environment Fund 14 April 2025
These schemes constitute capital funding supports, providing financial assistance for land preparation, tree planting, and associated infrastructure, as well as long-term maintenance and management in the case of the Native Woodland Conservation Scheme. My Department encourages interested sporting and community organisations to engage with a registered forester in the first instance and remains available to provide further assistance through its Forestry Division. These supports represent a valuable opportunity for sporting organisations and for communities to enhance their local environment and generate long-term public benefits.

My Department also has responsibility for the FLAG Coastal Communities Development Scheme. This scheme is implemented under Ireland’s Seafood Development Programme, which is co-funded by the Irish Government and the EU Commission under the European Maritime, Fisheries and Aquaculture Fund (EMFAF). The Scheme closed in May 2025 and will re-open in early 2026.

Bord Iascaigh Mhara provide administrative functions to the seven Fisheries Local Action Groups (FLAGs), who select project applications in their area for funding. These may include some capital projects.

Community Groups registered with the Companies Registration Office are eligible for funding, subject to eligibility criteria in the Operating Rules governing the scheme and these may include sporting organisations.

Details in relation to the FLAGs are available on www.bim.ie.

As regards the 13 State Bodies under the aegis of my Department, the information requested is an operational matter for the State Bodies themselves. I have referred the Deputy’s question to the Agencies and have requested that a response should issue within 10 days.
