My Department also has responsibility for the FLAG Coastal Communities Development Scheme. This scheme is implemented under Ireland’s Seafood Development Programme, which is co-funded by the Irish Government and the EU Commission under the European Maritime, Fisheries and Aquaculture Fund (EMFAF). The Scheme closed in May 2025 and will re-open in early 2026.
Bord Iascaigh Mhara provide administrative functions to the seven Fisheries Local Action Groups (FLAGs), who select project applications in their area for funding. These may include some capital projects.
Community Groups registered with the Companies Registration Office are eligible for funding, subject to eligibility criteria in the Operating Rules governing the scheme and these may include sporting organisations.
Details in relation to the FLAGs are available on www.bim.ie.
As regards the 13 State Bodies under the aegis of my Department, the information requested is an operational matter for the State Bodies themselves. I have referred the Deputy’s question to the Agencies and have requested that a response should issue within 10 days.
