The Carer’s Support Grant is paid to carers once a year by the Department of Social Protection.

The Carer’s Support Grant is paid automatically to people getting Carer’s Allowance, Carer’s Benefit

or Domiciliary Care Allowance, and a grant is paid for each person being cared for. But even without those qualifying payments it is still possible to be eligible for the Carer’s Support Grant.

Note that it is possible to be in receipt of more than one qualifying payment, such as Carer’s Allowance or Benefit and Domiciliary Care Allowance.

Table 1 - Carer's Support Grant paid in June 2025, by eligible scheme

Eligible scheme Number of recipients

Carer's Benefit 2,219
Domiciliary Care Allowance 30,014
Combination of Carer's Allowance or Carer's Benefit and Domicillary Care Allowance 28,754
Other eligibility 4,769
Total 136,763
