I propose to take Questions Nos. 886 and 887 together.
Regional development is a key focus of our Programme for Government and is central to the work of my Department and our Agencies. In that regard, regional development is a strategic imperative for the IDA who partners with client companies and key stakeholders in all regions in pursuit of its objective to maximise regional opportunities.
Investments by IDA Ireland client companies consistently generate highly-skilled jobs nationwide. IDA Ireland’s portfolio now comprises more than 1,800 clients across a diverse range of sectors in every county in Ireland. The 2024 IDA Annual Report, which I launched on July 2nd, showed employment levels within the FDI sector remain above 300,000 for the third consecutive year. The 2024 employment figure of 302,566 represented a slight increase (0.2%) in client employment over 2023 and accounted for 10.8% of overall national employment. Job growth was recorded in Modern Manufacturing and Traditional Manufacturing, Business, Financial and Other Services also reported an increase whilst ICT numbers saw a decline, reinforcing the critical importance of continued diversification across new and emerging sectors to drive sustained future growth.
There are currently 38 IDA-supported companies in County Louth. Over the past 10 years, the number of people directly employed by IDA supported companies in Louth has grown from 3,647 in 2015 to 4,111 in 2024. This growth is attributed to investments and expansions by various companies which have bolstered job creation and economic development in the county.
The list of IDA client companies, their location and employment range are included in the table below. Employment figures are taken from the latest Annual Employment Survey, which represents 2024 figures.

I propose to take Questions Nos. 888 and 889 together.
Enterprise Ireland’s (EI) strategy, ‘Delivering for Ireland, Leading Globally’, is focused on enabling Irish businesses to start, scale, compete, and connect. Central to this strategy is the ambition that Irish-owned exporting companies become the primary engine of Ireland’s economic growth. In delivering on this, EI works closely with client companies in every region, including County Louth, to support job creation, innovation, and international expansion.
Enterprise Ireland surveys its portfolio of clients annually to collect employment data and latest EI employment results for 2024 show an increase to a record 234,454 jobs with 15,741 new jobs created, up 3% on the 2023 outturn. Employment increased across EI’s three core economic sectors - Technology & Services (+2%), Industrial and Life Sciences (+3%) and Food and Sustainability (+3%).
This growth translates into a net increase of 6,212 jobs created in 2024. Balanced regional development is being achieved in terms of both new jobs created and total employment with 64% of new jobs regionally based and all nine regions recording jobs growth.
EI client companies in County Louth employ a total of 6,748 people, of which 6,150 are full-time. It is not possible to provide details of the number of employees at individual company level, as this information is confidential to the companies in question. A list of EI client companies in County Louth is set out in the attached table.
