The Government is fully committed to supporting a significant expansion and modernisation of the EV charging network over the coming years. Having an effective and reliable charging network is an essential part of enabling drivers to make the switch to electric vehicles.
Zero Emission Vehicles Ireland is currently supporting destination and local infrastructure through a range of schemes, including a Shared Island funded Sports Club scheme.
The Shared Island Sports Club EV Charging Infrastructure Scheme aims to put in place faster community-focused charging in sports clubs on an all-island basis. This has been made possible through a €15 million scheme funded through Ireland’s Shared Island Fund and has been quite successful to date as over 220 clubs across the island reached the eligibility threshold to continue to the next phase.
The applicant clubs completed an initial assessment and site inspection which were used to establish the suitability of the site for installation of a charger, resulting in the final list of eligible clubs.
There are a number of clubs in County Kerry which reached the eligibility threshold following site inspections, including seven GAA clubs.
The current phase to procure Charge Point Operators (CPOs) to undertake the works is well advanced and the tendering phase is complete with tender evaluation underway.
