I understand that the Director is stepping down on the 13th of June and I want to thank her for her contribution to the work of the Arts Council. I would also like to thank her for remaining in her role to represent the Arts Council at the recent Public Accounts Committee and the upcoming Joint Oireachtas Committee.

Under Section 15 of the Arts Act 2003, the Board of the Arts Council appoints the Director with the consent of the Minister for Culture, Communications and Sport. This appointment is also subject to the sanction of the Minister for Public Expenditure, NDP Delivery and Reform. I expect that the Arts Council will shortly be giving consideration to running a competition for the Director post. In this regard, the Department is bound by the sanctioning procedures set down by the Department of Public Expenditure, NDP Delivery and Reform and will need to seek sanction to run a competition. Subject to receipt of this sanction, I expect that the competition will take a number of months to complete.
