The Workplace Relations Commission (WRC) is an independent, statutory body under the aegis of my Department. The WRC’s primary functions include the inspection of employment law compliance, the provision of information on employment law, mediation, adjudication, conciliation, facilitation, and advisory services. The WRC is independent in the exercise of its quasi-judicial function, and I have no direct involvement in its day-to-day operations.
However, I am advised by the WRC that up to 23rd May 2025, it has received 45 individual complaints submitted under section 27 of the Work Life Balance and Miscellaneous Provisions Act 2023 in relation to remote working, seeking adjudication by a WRC Adjudication Officer.
Of the 45 complaints received, one was upheld by an Adjudication Officer, eight were rejected and 13 withdrawn either pre or post hearing. The remainder were resolved by Mediation or await a hearing and/or decision.
