To ask the Minister for Health routinely tracks and review cases involving multiple re-operations due to infection following spinal fusion or growth rod procedures; if these cases are subject to morbidity and mortality review or internal audit; the lessons, if any, that have been identified from these cases and the changes that have been implemented across sites to reduce the risk of infection and need for multiple re-interventions; and if she will make a statement on the matter. To ask the Minister for Health if she will publish any available findings from internal or external reviews conducted at Children's Health Ireland or Cappagh National Orthopaedic Hospital in relation to post-operative spinal infections and surgical site complications; and if she will make a statement on the matter. To ask the Minister for Health to confirm whether parents of children undergoing spinal fusion or growth rod procedures at Children's Health Ireland are informed of the relevant post-operative infection rates, either site-specific or national, as part of the surgical consent process; if this information is not routinely disclosed, to explain how this complies with the principles set out in national consent policies and standards which require service users to be given clear, relevant, and material risk information in order to make informed healthcare decisions (details supplied); and if she will make a statement on the matter.
