To ask the Minister for Education and Skills the percentage of social media video accessible, such as providing the information or activities posted on each of her Department’s social media accounts, or the social media accounts of public bodies and agencies that operate under its remit, including closed captioning and subtitling and Irish Sign Language translations, between 1 January 2024 and 31 December 2024, inclusive. Social media platforms play a key role in how the Department of Education communicate with the public, allowing us to share timely and accurate information at both local and national levels. Many of our stakeholders rely on these platforms as a trusted source, helping us to share important information, counter misinformation and ensure transparency.

In 2024 the department created and shared videos on its social media platforms - LinkedIn, YouTube and X (formerly Twitter). The department uses subtitles instead of closed captions.

The department also produced and distributed videos featuring students and parents speaking in Ukrainian and Arabic. These videos aimed to support other parents and students for whom these are their primary languages, offering valuable assistance to new students and their families as they navigated the Irish education system.

In 2024, the Department of Education published close to 400 press releases, with nearly half of them being published in Irish. All press releases are shared on the gov.ie website and on X.
