The Garda Commissioner is responsible for the management and administration of Garda business under Section 26 of the Garda Síochána Act 2005 (as amended), which includes the service's compliance with data protection obligations. As Minister, I play no role in these independent functions.

I am advised by the Garda authorities that An Garda Síochána has not received any administrative fines for infringements of data protection legislation, that is the General Data Protection Regulation and the Data Protection Acts 1988-2018 as applicable, for the period 1 January 2020 to 7 March 2025.
