Supports under the Humanitarian Assistance Scheme (HAS) are available under 3 separate stages. I refer to person’s application for HAS stage 1 following Storm Éowyn.
The HAS stage 1 is in place to address immediate hardship in the aftermath of the storm and provides emergency support payments to cover food and other essential costs in the immediate aftermath of the event only. The scheme does not provide general compensation and does not pay for damage that is covered by insurance policies, such as spoiled freezer food, nor does it cover commercial, agricultural, or business losses.
Following your representation, a Designated Person from the Community Welfare Service contacted the person concerned to discuss their claim. Considering the person’s circumstances and in light of the additional, new information they have provided, they will be awarded €150 towards food costs and an additional sum for the cost of accommodation. The total award will be calculated when person provides copies of accommodation receipts to my department. When this information is received, the person’s claim will be processed promptly.
I trust this clarifies the matter.
