348. To ask the Minister for Agriculture, Food and the Marine if he is aware of the news story of five horses being put down after being found ill on an Irish transport in subpar conditions (details supplied); if he will launch an investigation into the matter; and if he will make a statement on the matter. I understand that the Deputy is referring to a case which concerned a consignment of horses, originally dispatched from Northern Ireland to Great Britain.
My Department is aware of this case and has liaised with their counterparts in Northern Ireland and Great Britain to offer assistance with investigating the circumstances surrounding the case.
As this investigation is ongoing, it would not be appropriate for me to comment further on this matter.
