There are a number of housing estates across the country, including the estate mentioned in the details supplied, that rely upon their water services from infrastructure provided by the developer of the estates. The water services infrastructure concerned is described as Developer Provided Infrastructure, more commonly called DPI.

The infrastructure is privately owned and is not connected to the public Uisce Éireann network and the estates, as yet, have not been taken in charge.

I can confirm that from 1 January 2024 Uisce Éireann, as the national water authority, has responsibility for the remediation of DPI infrastructure.

A multi-stakeholder group with representation from Uisce Éireann, the local authorities and my Department is in place to oversee the process of progressively resolving the issues in these locations nationally.

However, given the scale and complexity of issues involved in many of the locations, it is acknowledged that it will take time to resolve all issues and locations and that a range of resolution options are likely to be used.
