As you may be aware, the purpose of the Summer Works Scheme (SWS) is to enable individual school authorities to undertake small-scale building works on a devolved basis including external works such as play areas. However, all projects must be fully approved by my Department and be in compliance with the Department’s Technical Guidance Documents (TGD’s) before progressing to the construction phase of their project.

My Department have been in constant contact with the School in question in order to progress this project. Initially the school had applied for an all weather surface which was refused and the school were advised to refer to my Department’s TGD’s and the surfaces covered. The school subsequently reverted back with a revised scope and I am happy to confirm that the revised application for the school’s Summer Works project has been approved and the Summer Works Scheme (SWS) team has engaged with the school to advise them they can now proceed.
