The Social Welfare Appeals Office is an Office of the Department of Social Protection which is responsible for determining appeals against decisions in relation to social welfare entitlements. Appeals Officers are independent in their decision making functions.
I am advised by the Social Welfare Appeals Office that an Appeals Officer, having fully considered all of the available evidence, has decided to disallow the appeal of the person concerned by way of a summary decision. The person concerned has been notified of the Appeals Officer’s decision.
I trust this clarifies the matter for the Deputy.

471. To ask the Minister for Employment Affairs and Social Protection if a person in Donegal (details supplied) will be repaid illness benefit that was paid to the wrong bank account; the steps his Department is taking to recover the money; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [9512/25]

The person concerned made an application for Illness Benefit on 3 December 2024 and included the following bank details in the application: AIB account ending in #####1088.
Payments issued to this bank account for the period 16 November 2024 to 18 January 2025. I have confirmed with the accounts Department that the payments have not been returned and the AIB account ending in IBAN #####1088 is active.
Payment was made according to the bank details that were provided on the application form for Illness Benefit.
My department received new banking details from the individual on 16 January 2025, and the bank details on the Illness Benefit claim were changed to AIB ending #####4094. Illness Benefit payment transferred to this account from 20 January 2025.
The department is unable to communicate with banking organisations directly in relation to personal accounts of customers. If the person in question requires to have the money transferred from one account to another, they must discuss this with their bank.
I trust this clarify the position for the Deputy.
