178. To ask the Taoiseach the progress made by the Central Statistics Office in developing an indicator of vacant properties in the country; if the ESB has provided them with consumption data; the reason the number of vacant properties are not being accurately centrally tracked; and if he will make a statement on the matter. The Central Statistics Office is currently developing a publication which will provide information on the extent of residential vacancy in 2022 and 2023. It is expected that this publication will be released in the second quarter of the year. A further publication providing information on residential vacancy in 2024 is planned for later this year, with future regular publications also planned. These publications are based on patterns of residential electricity consumption using data provided to the CSO by the ESB. The CSO established a dedicated Housing Statistics division in 2024 to prioritise publications on key housing related themes including residential vacancy.
