No request has been received by the Department of Public Expenditure; National Development Plan Delivery and Reform to commence Garda Trainees on the first point of the Garda pay scale. In 2023, the Department of Justice and DPENDR agreed to increase the weekly Garda Trainee allowance from €184 to €305. Further agreement was reached between the Departments last year to increase the weekly allowance to €354 from October 2024. This represents an overall increase in the allowance of 92% since 2023.
