Unprecedented damage has been caused by Storm Éowyn and I am aware of reports of significant damage across the Irish horticulture sector as a result of this extreme weather event.
My colleague, Minister of State for Forestry, Horticulture and Farm Safety, Michael Healy-Rae TD will meet with representatives of all the horticulture sub-sectors at a meeting of the Horticulture Industry Forum on the 11th of February. This meeting will give him an opportunity to hear directly from growers on the impacts of the storm on their sector.
My Department is also engaging with Teagasc and other stakeholders to assess the extent and significance of the damage across the horticulture sector. This, together with stakeholder views, will inform future considerations regarding support for this important sector.
