I can advise the Deputy that international students who are from visa required countries must apply for an Irish visa before traveling to study in Ireland.

It is normal practice throughout EU Member States to charge a fee for immigration services. The current fees for visa applications are €60 euro for single entry visas and €100 euro for multi entry visas. Some international students are exempt from the requirement to pay the visa fee. The details of these exemptions are available on my Department’s website.

Non-EEA, non-Swiss, and non-UK international students residing in Ireland for longer than 90 days must also register with Immigration Service Delivery (ISD) and obtain an Irish Residence Permit (IRP) card. The current registration fee has remained unchanged since 2012.

The registration fee of €300 is intended to reflect the effort and costs involved in processing registrations, over and above the physical cost of production of each card and, importantly, the need to continue to invest in measures to improve and modernise the services provided to applicants.

While these matters are kept under review, there are no current plans to amend visa application or registration fees for international students.
