My department provides assistance to households in the immediate aftermath of severe weather events under the Humanitarian Assistance Scheme.
The Humanitarian Assistance Scheme was activated on Thursday 23rd January in advance of Storm Éowyn’s arrival and continues to be available to provide support to those living in properties directly affected by Storm Éowyn.
Stage 1 of the Humanitarian Assistance Scheme is available to people who are currently impacted by the storm and need immediate supports while they are without power and/or water. It does not pay for damage that is covered by insurance policies for example, spoiled freezer food, storm damage, nor does it cover commercial, agricultural, or business losses.
The scheme has supported the purchase of necessary items such as gas heaters, torches, and petrol or diesel for domestic generators by people who, at the time the application was approved, did not have any power and/or water supply following Storm Éowyn.
Community Welfare Officers have been visiting people affected by the storm and providing support. The service is also working closely with the Local Coordination Groups in local authorities.
People who need assistance in the areas affected can contact their local Community Welfare Service by visiting their local Intreo Centre or Branch Office, or phoning the Department at 0818 60 70 80 or emailing the Community Welfare Service at HAS@welfare.ie.
I trust this clarifies the matter for the Deputy.
