731. To ask the Minister for Employment Affairs and Social Protection whether the social welfare (bereaved partner's pension) Bill, which completed pre-legislative scrutiny in the Thirty-third Dáil in July 2024, will be included in the spring legislative programme; and if he will make a statement on the matter. The Deputy will be aware that it is a Programme for Government commitment to 'enact legislation to give entitlement to unmarried cohabitants to a Widow’s, Widower’s or Surviving Civil Partner’s Contributory Pension'.
Therefore, I can confirm that the Social Welfare (bereaved partner's pension) Bill 2025 is included in the Spring legislative programme. I expect the stamped draft of the Bill from the Office of Parliamentary Counsel shortly.
