613. To ask the Minister for Housing, Planning, and Local Government if he is considering additional funding to local authorities such as South Dublin County Council, to enable the council to pursue in a more aggressive way the replacement of sodium bulbs with LED lighting (details supplied); and if he will make a statement on the matter. My Department does not allocate specific funding towards the management and maintenance of public lighting, as this is a matter for each individual local authority, in this instance, South Dublin County Council .

Local authorities receive income from a variety of sources, including grants from Central Government, Local Property Tax, commercial rates and other locally-raised charges. Each authority is mandated to determine its own spending priorities, including the level of funding to be provided for public lighting, while having regard to locally identified needs and available resources.
