671. To ask the Minister for Education and Skills if she will consider provision of accommodation for younger/newer teachers, particularly in Dublin and areas where the cost of accommodation is high; and if she will make a statement on the matter. [2072/25]

The Government is committed to the delivery of quality public services and acknowledges that the housing issue presents particular challenges which are a source of concern for all public service workers, including those in the education sector.
The Government is conscious of the need for greater availability of affordable accommodation for our young people, including teachers. Housing remains a priority matter for Government, led by the Minister for Housing, Local Government and Heritage.
The draft Programme for Government, Securing Ireland’s Future includes a commitment to provide certain cost rental units for key local workers. The Housing for All strategy delivers on this commitment to step up housing supply and put affordability at the heart of the housing system.
The Department of Housing, Local Government and Heritage enacted legislation in 2024 to provide designated opportunities for key workers in cost rental developments, supporting vital local services in high-demand areas, and will lead on the further implementation of related policy.
The Government recognises the urgent need for additional cost rental homes, to ensure that we have the staff available, including teachers, for vital local services particularly in areas of high housing demand.
