As you will be aware, under the Garda Síochána Act 2005 (as amended), the Garda Commissioner is responsible for the management and administration of An Garda Síochána, including the purchase, allocation, and effective and efficient use of Garda resources. As Minister, I have no role in these independent functions.

The Government is committed to ensuring that An Garda Síochána has the resources it needs to fight crime, and a strengthened, well-resourced Garda organisation is central to this policy. I was pleased to secure unprecedented funding of over €2.48 billion under Budget 2025, a 27% increase since 2020 which is supporting the continued recruitment of Garda members and staff.

I am advised that at the end of October 2024 there were 3,545 vehicles attached to the Garda fleet, an increase of almost 14% since the end of 2020. I am further advised that there were 305 Garda vehicles assigned to Cork City and Cork County, an increase of 12% since the end of December 2020.

The attached spreadsheet, which was provided to me by the Garda authorities, sets out these Garda vehicles by Division. I am informed that An Garda Síochána do not provide vehicle allocations by Garda Station for security reasons. However, I am assured that the Commissioner keeps the allocation of these resources under continued review, in line with crime and population trends, to ensure their optimum use.

The Deputy may also wish to be aware that An Garda Síochána publish information on Garda fleet, including a Divisional/District monthly breakdown, on their website at: www.garda.ie/en/about-us/our-departments/finance-services/finance-fleet-management.html.

I have requested the information sought by the Deputy from the Garda authorities. Regrettably, this was not available in time and I will write to the Deputy once the information is to hand.
