As the Deputy is aware, each year in the run-up to Halloween, additional efforts are made by An Garda Síochána to combat the illegal importation, sale and use of fireworks, under what is known as Operation Tombola which is a national operation.
I am informed by An Garda Síochána that there have been 172 seizures of fireworks objects nationally under Operation Tombola this year up to 4 November. The regional breakdown of seizures is set out in the table below.
Region | Fireworks Objects Seized |
---|---|
Dublin Region | 50 |
Eastern Region | 36 |
North Western Region | 29 |
Southern Region | 57 |
I am advised that a single object record in PULSE can refer to multiple fireworks, so the actual count of fireworks may be higher than the PULSE count of objects and that a further breakdown to Garda Divisional level is not possible.
