212. To ask the Minister for Health his plans to restrict the advertising of zero-alcohol products that brand share, that is, have the same branding, logos and colours as their full-strength alcoholic counterpart; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [43572/24]

The importance of alcohol advertising is well recognized and restrictions on advertising is an important action in order to ultimately reduce alcohol consumption and the associated harm. On that basis my current priority is to finalise the regulations on the content of alcohol advertisements under section 13 of the Public Health (Alcohol) Act. These regulations, along with section 13, will provide that alcohol advertisements must contain health warning and that their content is limited to factual information.

The Advertising Standards Authority of Ireland (ASAI) set out that it is examining whether it will issue additional rules or guidance to address zero alcohol advertisements. Dealing with this issue through non-statutory means is likely to be faster and simpler than developing new law. I will continue to give consideration to how best to address this issue while awaiting the outcome of the ASAI process. My Department continually monitors the evidence on the impacts of advertising and the impacts of zero alcohol products on alcohol consumption and harm.
