119. To ask the Minister for Employment Affairs and Social Protection if there will be an increase to the standard eye examination payments claimed by dispensing opticians and optometrists under the treatment benefit scheme; the timeframe set for this; and if she will make a statement on the matter. The Treatment Benefit Scheme provides dental, optical, aural and hair replacement products and services to insured workers, the self-employed, retired people and their dependent spouse/partner who have the required number of social insurance (PRSI) contributions.
The Department has commenced a review of the Optical Benefit scheme including examination payments claimed by opticians and optometrists.
The review is likely to be concluded in the coming months.
I hope this clarifies the matter for the Deputy.
