The focus of the scheme is to assist people improve their qualifications and as a result improve their access to sustainable employment. The Government has provided €35.7 million for the scheme in 2024.
In limited circumstances post-graduate courses can be supported under this scheme. Back to Education Allowance may be approved where the applicant intends to undertake studies leading to a Higher Diploma in any discipline or the Professional Masters in Education. Additionally, Back to Education Allonwace may be awarded for a Master’s degree based solely on life experience where the applicant holds no other third level qualification.
The specifics provided by the Deputy refers to a post graduate course delivered through blended learning which is not included under the Back to Education Allowance scheme.
