The Department of Education can confirm that agreement has been reached to transfer the former Abbey Community College site, Wicklow town, to the Minister for Education.
The site will provide accommodation for Wicklow Educate Together Secondary School on a permanent basis.
A project to develop the site to provide the required accommodation for 600 pupils plus Special Education Needs Provision is on the department’s current school building programme.
The Chief State Solicitor's Office, acting on behalf of the department, is currently progressing the acquisition through the conveyancing stage.
Each acquisition is also very unique and dependant on multiple factors, many which may be outside of the control of the Department. In this regard, it is not possible to give a specific timeframe for the completion of this acquisition. However, the Department will endeavour to progress the acquisition as expeditiously as possible.
