The Government is committed to supporting the move to low-emission vehicles. Over €115m has been allocated in 2024 to ensure the continued transition to EVs which includes funding for EV grants and EV charging infrastructure. This underpins the Government’s desire to make electric vehicles accessible to all.

Electric vehicle policy is kept under continuous review with a view to making low-emission vehicles affordable.

Motor insurance and policies are a matter for the companies concerned, rather than the Department of Transport.

The Competition and Consumer Protection Commission (CCPC) advise on types of motor insurance and questions for insurers. As per CCPC website, it is also possible, following unsatisfactory complaint response from insurance company, to contact the Financial Services and Pensions Ombudsman.

Central Bank of Ireland can also be of assistance as the Insurance Supervision Directorate is responsible for the prudential supervision of insurance and reinsurance undertakings authorised in Ireland.
