Carer's Benefit (CARB) is a payment made to insured people who leave the workforce or reduce their working hours to care for a child or an adult in need of full-time care and attention.
To qualify, the Carer must satisfy PRSI conditions; employment conditions; show that they are providing full-time care and attention; and show that the care recipient requires full-time care and attention.
CARB is payable for a period of 2 years (104 weeks) for each care recipient and may be claimed over separate periods up to a total of 2 years (104 weeks).
An application for CARB was received from the person concerned on the 26 June 2024.
A Deciding Officer (DO) examined the application and determined that further information was required to make a formal decision. A request for information issued on the 9 July 2024.
The information was received and the DO awarded the claim for its full entitlement period of 104 weeks from the 25 July 2024 to 22 July 2026. As the person concerned was in receipt of another social protection scheme payment, the date of award was taken as the date the other payment ceased. CARB is not paid concurrently with other selected scheme payments.
The person concerned was notified in writing of the award of CARB on 17 July 2024.
I hope this clarifies the matter for the Deputy.
