The central equine database is a live system that is continually updated as information is entered. The final figure for the number of thoroughbreds slaughtered in 2023 is 1,440. All were slaughtered at the one approved equine slaughter facility in Co. Kildare. There are no other approved facilities slaughtering horses in Ireland.
